UK PM Theresa May won a go-ahead for trade talks with the EU early today in a deal that still left many questions unanswered

UK PM Theresa May won a go-ahead for trade talks with the EU early today in a deal that still left many questions unanswered and that will see Britain pay a sum between £35 billion and £39 billion.

Ending a week of rollercoaster drama that begin with a walkout by the DUP, UK PM Mrs. May flew just before 06:00 hrs. this morning to Brussels to shake hands on her “hard-won agreement”.

The Northern Ireland border issue was only settled in the early hours of this morning after the UK pledged “full alignment” with European single market rules on a swathe of areas affecting the Good Friday Agreement.

Other concessions that emerged for the first time today, included that the European Court of Justice will have a role regarding the rights of EU citizens living in the UK for eight years - but crucially the EU court will not have jurisdiction.

Under terms for a transition deal outlined by European Council president Donald Tusk, Britain will obey EU rules for around two more years after Brexit in March 2019.

This agreement was welcomed by the UK Cabinet like Boris Johnson and Michael Gove but caused also unease.

Beter Bed Holding: Duitse consument blijft terughoudend

Zoals reeds op 3 november jongstleden gecommuniceerd in ons persbericht, waarin we informeerden over leveranciersgerelateerde problemen, is sinds het begin van het vierde kwartaal in Duitsland een verminderde koopbereidheid in de gehele matrassenmarkt zichtbaar. De recent getroffen marketingmaatregelen hebben de trend van dalende bezoekersaantallen weliswaar gekeerd, echter deze zijn nog niet terug op het oude niveau.

Mede als gevolg van deze ontwikkelingen zal de EBITDA over 2017 naar verwachting significant dalen ten opzichte van de EBITDA over 2016 (€ 37,5 miljoen).

Tegelijkertijd is in Duitsland een duidelijke toename waarneembaar in de verkoop van boxsprings. Dit leidt tot een hogere orderportefeuille in het vierde kwartaal, waarvan de omzet, door de bijbehorende levertijden, goeddeels in 2018 gerealiseerd zal worden.

De omzetontwikkeling in de Benelux blijft onverminderd positief.

De onderneming publiceert op 19 januari 2018 een trading update over het vierde kwartaal en zal op 2 maart 2018 de definitieve jaarcijfers 2017 bekendmaken.

Sysco Begins Process of Incorporating Fully-Electric Semi Tractors Into Fleet

U.S. creates 228,000 new jobs in November

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 228,000 in November, and the unemployment  rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.  Employment continued to trend up in professional and business services, manufacturing, and health care.

TLN waarschuwt: fileschade vrachtverkeer 1 miljard

De noodzaak om te investeren in knelpunten op de Nederlandse wegen neemt toe nu de filedruk opnieuw flink stijgt, tot op het niveau van vóór de crisisjaren.

De totale schade voor het bedrijfsleven, veroorzaakt door files op snelwegen, steeg in 2016 met 100 miljoen euro tot aan 1,2 miljard euro.

Duurste traject

Het duurste traject voor vrachtverkeer was de A4, tussen de knooppunten Burgerveen en Prins Clausplein (19,3 miljoen euro). Nummer twee op de lijst is de A15, tussen de knooppunten Ridderkerk en Gorinchem (13,2 miljoen euro). Gevolgd door de A12, tussen de knooppunten Gouwe en Oudenrijn (13 miljoen euro).

Sterke stijging

TLN maakt zich zorgen over de sterke stijging van de schade door files. Vooral omdat de schade in de toekomst nog verder oploopt. Volgens cijfers van het Kennisinstituut voor Mobiliteitsbeleid (KiM) stijgt het reistijdverlies tot 2022 met 28%.

Niet in het programma

TLN vraagt het kabinet snel de grote knelpunten op de Nederlandse wegen aan te pakken. Enkele knelpunten uit de file top-20 staan nog niet in het investeringsprogramma van het Rijk (Meerjarenprogramma Infrastructuur, Ruimte en Transport, MIRT). Dit zijn onder meer de knelpunten Barneveld-Apeldoorn op de A1 en Everdingen-Deil op de A2.

VOGELGRIEP VASTGESTELD BIJ PLUIMVEEBEDRIJF IN BIDDINGHUIZEN

In Biddinghuizen (gemeente Dronten) is op vrijdag 8 december bij een bedrijf met vleeseenden vogelgriep van het type H5 vastgesteld. Het gaat vermoedelijk om een hoogpathogene variant van de vogelgriep. Om verspreiding van het virus te voorkomen, wordt het bedrijf geruimd. In totaal gaat het om circa 16.000 vleeseenden. De ruiming wordt uitgevoerd door de Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA).

In het gebied van 3 kilometer rond het besmette bedrijf in Biddinghuizen liggen vier andere pluimveebedrijven. Deze bedrijven worden bemonsterd en onderzocht op vogelgriep. In de 10 kilometerzone rondom dit bedrijf liggen 23 pluimveebedrijven.

Minister Schouten van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit heeft per direct een vervoersverbod voor pluimvee afgekondigd in een zone van tien kilometer rond het besmette bedrijf in Biddinghuizen. Een vervoersverbod heeft betrekking op pluimvee, eieren, pluimveemest en gebruikt strooisel, maar ook op andere dieren en dierlijke producten afkomstig van bedrijven met commercieel gehouden gevogelte.

Landelijke maatregelen

Omdat er sprake is van een hoogpathogene variant  is voor heel Nederland een ophokplicht ingesteld. Dit geldt voor alle commerciële bedrijven die vogels houden die bestemd zijn  voor de productie van vlees, eieren of andere producten. De ophokplicht geldt ook voor bedrijven die vogels fokken die in het wild worden uitgezet. De maatregel is uit voorzorg genomen om de kans op verdere besmetting te verkleinen.

Dierentuinen, kinderboerderijen en eigenaren van hobbyvogels zijn verplicht hun pluimvee en watervogels af te schermen zodat deze dieren niet in contact komen met wilde watervogels en hun uitwerpselen. Dit kan bijvoorbeeld door de dieren in een volière te houden of in een ren onder te brengen. De dierentuinen en kinderboerderijen kunnen wel bezocht worden.

Het bestaande hygiëneprotocol voor bezoekers om commerciële pluimveebedrijven te bezoeken wordt uitgebreid. Dit betekent onder andere dat bezoekers alleen nog de stal of erf mogen betreden na het nemen van strenge hygiënemaatregelen. 

Verder is er een verbod ingesteld op het tentoonstellen van sierpluimvee en watervogels.

Eenden- en kalkoenenbedrijven

Daarnaast gelden voor eenden- en kalkoenenbedrijven  enkele extra  maatregelen, deze gaan per direct in. Ten eerste moeten eendenbedrijven een hygiëneprotocol naleven voor strooisel, waaronder het afdekken van de strooisel-opslag en het schoonmaken van het materieel dat wordt gebruikt om het strooisel de stal in te brengen. Ten tweede mogen eenden of kalkoenen alleen worden vervoerd nadat zij onderzocht zijn door een dierenarts.  Ten slotte mogen transporten van of naar deze bedrijven alleen rechtstreeks plaatsvinden.

Aedes vraagt aandacht Tweede Kamer voor pijnpunten rond wonen

De Tweede Kamer bespreekt maandag 11 december 2017 alle zaken die in de Rijksbegroting en het regeerakkoord van het kabinet Rutte III staan op het gebied van wonen.

Aedes heeft een brief geschreven aan de Tweede Kamer om aandacht te vragen voor een aantal pijnpunten, waar ook rond het regeerakkoord al aandacht voor is gevraagd.

Deze punten zijn:

•        De aanpassing van de vennootschapsbelasting in het regeerakkoord. Woningcorporaties dreigen hierdoor onbedoeld vanaf 2019 elk jaar 300 tot 400 miljoen euro extra te moeten betalen.

•        De wetswijziging om belastingontwijking tegen te gaan, pakt uit als een boete op verduurzaming. Woningcorporaties vragen de Tweede Kamer daarom met klem aandacht voor deze maatregel, voordat het kabinet hen dupeert met een maatregel die eigenlijk gericht is op private equity en hedge funds.

•        Woningcorporaties waarderen de verduurzamingsambities van het kabinet. Maar de 150 miljoen euro die het kabinet deze kabinetsperiode uittrekt voor verduurzaming van sociale huurwoningen, is wat Aedes betreft echt te weinig. Dit komt neer op 50 euro per woning, terwijl het energiezuinig maken 50.000 euro per woning kost.

•        De verhuurderheffing staat door het nieuwe kabinet voor de komende jaren ingeboekt voor 1,7 miljard euro. Door de stijgende WOZ-waarden zal deze hier ruim bovenuit komen (inschatting is dat de heffing in 2020 circa 2 miljard euro zal bedragen). Aedes vraagt de Kamer om het maximum van 1,7 miljard ook vast te leggen en de heffing niet verder te laten oplopen.

•        Aedes deed in oktober al een oproep met tien andere brancheorganisaties in de (semi)publieke sector voor minder administratieve lastendruk. Intussen ligt er een rapport over de extra administratieve verplichtingen door de Woningwet met zestien concrete aanbevelingen. Corporaties vragen de Tweede Kamer nu al aan de slag te gaan om de onnodige lastendruk te verminderen en niet te wachten op de evaluatie van de Woningwet eind 2018.

•        Woningcorporaties vragen ook aandacht voor kwetsbare groepen die steeds vaker en langer zelfstandig wonen. Corporaties werken aan de ondersteuning van deze groep met het actieprogramma Weer Thuis!. Het programma ondersteunt momenteel met succes acht regio’s en wil graag uitbreiden. Met steun van de overheid zou het programma kunnen uitbreiden naar idealiter 20 regio’s.

•        Het is cruciaal dat er goede en voldoende begeleiding is voor kwetsbare mensen die zelfstandig wonen, om problemen zoals woonoverlast te voorkomen. De ambulante GGZ komt in veel gemeenten nog niet voldoende op gang. Aedes wil dat de Tweede Kamer erop aandringt dat de ministeries van BZK en VWS gezamenlijk aandacht hebben voor het zelfstandig wonen en de daarbij behorende begeleiding.

•        Tot slot vinden woningcorporaties het goed dat het nieuwe kabinet de armoedeval in het systeem van huurtoeslag aanpakt, door de huurtoeslaggrens meer geleidelijk te laten aflopen. Dit betekent wel een netto bezuiniging op de huurtoeslag, en dat raakt huurders met de laagste inkomens rechtstreeks in de portemonnee. Een aandachtspunt voor de Tweede Kamer.

UK October construction output down 1.7%

•Construction output also contracted month-on-month in October 2017, decreasing 1.7%, in part due to a 1.5% fall in all new work.

•Construction output contracted for the sixth consecutive period in the three-month on three-month time series, falling by 1.4% in October 2017.

•The three-month on three-month fall in construction output stemmed from falls in both repair and maintenance, and all new work, which fell by 3% and 0.6% respectively.

•New orders saw record growth in Quarter 3 (July to September) 2017, growing by 37.4% compared with the previous quarter.

•The record growth was driven predominantly by growth in the infrastructure sector, caused by the awarding of several high-value new orders relating to High Speed 2 (HS2).

•Housing new orders also grew in Quarter 3 2017, increasing by 9.5%, recovering from a fall of 4.2% in the previous quarter.

IAG: BRITISH AIRWAYS TO LAUNCH NEW UK PENSION SCHEME AND CLOSE ITS MAIN DEFINED BENEFIT SCHEME TO FUTURE ACCRUAL

International Airlines Group’s subsidiary British Airways has decided, following consultation with its trade unions and employees, to launch a flexible benefits scheme incorporating a new defined contribution pension scheme.

The scheme will open on April 1, 2018 replacing the main UK defined benefit scheme, the New Airways Pension Scheme (NAPS), and the main UK defined contribution scheme, the British Airways Retirement Plan (BARP).

The changes are subject to NAPS trustees agreeing to amend the scheme’s rules to enable closure to future accrual.

The new scheme will offer market-competitive arrangements with a choice of contribution rates and the ability to opt for cash instead of a pension. Active NAPS members will also be offered a choice of transition arrangements including a cash lump sum, additional company pension contributions or additional pension benefits in NAPS prior to its closure.

The overall financial impact on British Airways will depend, in part, on the transition arrangements members select.

German: Labour costs in the 3rd quarter of 2017 up 2.2% on the same period of 2016

In Germany, labour costs per hour worked rose by 2.2% in the third quarter of 2017 on a calendar adjusted basis, compared with the same quarter of 2016, compared with the previous quarter, labour costs were up 0.7% in seasonally and calendar adjusted terms.

Labour costs consist of gross earnings and non-wage costs. In calendar adjusted terms, the costs of gross earnings in the third quarter of 2017 increased by 2.2% year on year, while non-wage costs were up 2.4%.

For the second quarter of 2017, rates of labour cost change are available for all European Union (EU) Member States, except France. According to those results, the price of one hour worked in Germany rose by 2.3% in calendar adjusted terms on the same quarter of the previous year. In the entire EU, the increase in labour costs averaged 2.2% in that period.

The highest growth rates within the EU were recorded in Romania (+18.6%), Hungary (+12.6%) and the Czech Republic (+11.3%). The lowest rates of change were recorded in Finland (–0.3%), Cyprus (+0.4%) and Spain (+0.4%).

EC: Statement by President Donald Tusk on the draft guidelines for the second phase of the Brexit negotiations

                This morning, I received the confirmation from our negotiators that sufficient progress has been made. This allows me to present the draft guidelines for the December European Council, which I have just sent to the leaders. My proposals are the following.

First, we should start negotiating the transition period, so that people and businesses have clarity about their situation. As you know, the UK has asked for a transition of about two years, while remaining part of the Single Market and Customs Union. And we will be ready to discuss this, but naturally, we have our conditions. I propose that during this period, the UK will respect:

•             the whole of EU law, including new law;

•             it will respect budgetary commitments;

•             it will respect judicial oversight;

•             and of course, all the related obligations.

Clearly, within the transition period following the UK's withdrawal, EU decision-making will continue among the 27 member states, without the UK.

All of what I have said seems to be the only reasonable solution, and it is in the interest of all our citizens that it is agreed as soon as possible. This is why I will ask the EU leaders to mandate our negotiator to start these talks immediately.

Second, we want to begin discussions with the UK in order to explore the British vision of its future relationship with the EU. So far, we have heard a number of various ideas. We need more clarity on how the UK sees our future relations, after it has left the Single Market and Customs Union. I therefore propose to mandate our negotiator to start exploratory talks with our British friends about this problem. On our side, we are ready to start preparing a close EU-UK partnership in trade, but also in the fight against terrorism and international crime as well as security, defence and foreign policy. For this to happen, the European Council will have to adopt additional guidelines next year.

While being satisfied with today's agreement, which is obviously the personal success of Prime Minister Theresa May, let us remember that the most difficult challenge is still ahead. We all know that breaking up is hard. But breaking up and building a new relation is much harder. Since the Brexit referendum, a year and a half has passed. So much time has been devoted to the easier part of the task. And now, to negotiate a transition arrangement and the framework for our future relationship, we have de facto less than a year. Productie industrie 4 procent op jaarbasis hoger in oktober

De gemiddelde dagproductie van de Nederlandse industrie was in oktober 4,0 procent hoger dan in oktober 2016, maakt het CBS bekend. De stijging is kleiner dan een maand eerder. Al twee jaar produceert de industrie meer dan in dezelfde periode een jaar eerder. De productie van de transportmiddelenindustrie groeide opnieuw het sterkst.

De transportmiddelenindustrie produceerde in oktober bijna 17 procent meer dan in oktober 2016. Ook de productie van de machine, de elektrische-apparaten- en de farmaceutische industrie groeide sterker dan gemiddeld in de industrie.

De genoemde bedrijfsklassen in de grafiek zijn goed voor circa 70 procent van de industriële productie.

Voor het bepalen van de kortetermijnontwikkeling van de productie kan het beste worden gekeken naar voor seizoen- en werkdageffecten gecorrigeerde cijfers. Van september op oktober 2017 daalde de productie met 0,7 procent.

De voor seizoeneffecten gecorrigeerde productie fluctueert aanzienlijk. Dalingen en stijgingen volgen elkaar snel op. Sinds medio 2014 is er sprake van een stijgende trend van de industriële productie.

Het Nederlandse producentenvertrouwen bereikte in oktober de op een na hoogste stand ooit. Alleen in januari 2008 was het vertrouwen hoger.

Duitsland is een belangrijke afzetmarkt voor de Nederlandse industrie. Het vertrouwen van de Duitse producenten bereikte in november een nieuw record. De producenten waren vooral positiever over de toekomstige bedrijvigheid. De gemiddelde dagproductie van de Duitse industrie was in oktober 2,5 procent hoger dan een jaar eerder.

EU Boss Juncker announced shortly ago a Brexit compromise and it is recommending it to the European Council.

"Sufficient progress" has been made in the first phase of Brexit talks - which had initially floundered on the status of the Irish border.

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker  told a press conference in Brussels this morning that negotiations had been "difficult" for the EU and the UK.

But he said "we have the breakthrough we needed" and he is sure the EU27 will open Phase 2 of the Brexit talks.

British Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in Brussels early this morning and is set to finally sign up to the Brexit deal that dramatically broke down on Monday.

She said the Brexit deal was a "significant improvement" which had required give and take on both sides. The British Prime Minister confirmed the deal would ensure "no hard border" in Ireland.

A long-awaited breakthrough has been achieved in Brexit negotiations.

Talks about Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union will now enter the second phase of negotiations following an agreement struck overnight.

EU president Jean-Claude Juncker confirmed this morning the UK had made “significant” progress in meeting the necessary terms of the Brexit divorce bill.

Prime Minister Theresa May and Brexit Secretary David Davis had earlier arrived in Brussels to meet with Mr Juncker and the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier.

Mrs May and her Brexit Secretary arrived at the Berlaymont shortly before 07:00 HRS CET.

The meeting follows a flurry of diplomacy by Mrs May late yesterday that fuelled speculation that an agreement on plans to maintain a soft Irish border was edging closer.

UK PM Theresa May has agreed the text of a Brexit divorce deal after all night talks with European Commission president Jean Claude Juncker, the DUP and the Irish government.

The British prime minister made a series of calls on Thursday to the Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the leader of the DUP Arlene Foster late on Thursday before finally agreeing a compromise position on the Northern Ireland border.

“I believe we have now made the breakthrough we needed,” Juncker just said in a joint press conference with May.

An agreement had been expected earlier in the week but was effectively vetoed by the DUP after the original version of the text suggested there would be continued “regulatory alignment” between Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Theresa May and David Davis have arrived early this morning in Brussels to meet with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and the European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier.

The Prime Minister and her Brexit Secretary arrived at the Berlaymont shortly before 07:00 hrs. on Friday morning.

It comes after Mrs May tried to hammer out a Brexit agreement on maintaining a soft Irish border overnight, with the prime minister understood to be close on getting final sign-offs from Belfast, Dublin and Brussels.

In an apparent sign that a Brexit deal has been done, Mr. Juncker's head of  cabinet Martin Selmayr tweeted a photograph of white smoke gushing from the  chimney of the Sistine Chapel - the traditional way of signalling that a new  Pope has been chosen.

Brussel: Aantal doden op Belgische wegen daalt met 11% in de eerste 9 maanden van dit jaar

Volgens de laatste verkeersveiligheidsbarometer van Vias institute is het aantal doden ter plaatse op onze wegen gevoelig gedaald in de eerste 9 maanden van dit jaar vergeleken met dezelfde periode in 2016: -11%. Nooit eerder vielen er minder verkeersdoden. Het aantal letselongevallen vertoont ook een daling: -6%. Het Brussels Gewest kent een lichte stijging van het aantal verkeersdoden (+3 doden). In de provincie Antwerpen is er een forse stijging (+20 doden).

Alle indicatoren dalen op nationaal niveau

Het aantal doden ter plaatse is sterk gedaald op onze wegen in de eerste 9 maanden van dit jaar: -11% in vergelijking met dezelfde periode vorig jaar (ofwel 363 doden ter plaatse in plaats van 407). Nooit eerder vielen er minder verkeersdoden.

Ook het aantal gewonden daalt (van 38.165 naar 35.735, ofwel -6%), net zoals het aantal letselongevallen (van 29.681 naar 27.966, ofwel -6%). Al deze indicatoren zitten op het laagste niveau sinds de start van de verkeersveiligheidsbarometer in 2004.

Lichte stijging aantal verkeersdoden in Brussel

Het aantal doden is forser gedaald op de Vlaamse wegen (van 202 naar 168 doden, ofwel -17%) dan in Wallonië (van 198 naar 185, ofwel -7%). Vlaanderen laat een laagterecord optekenen, terwijl er in Wallonië in 2014 betere resultaten werden opgetekend. In Brussel is het aantal doden wel gestegen van 7 naar 10. Het aantal letselongevallen en gewonden daalt wel in de 3 gewesten.

Forse stijging van het aantal doden in Antwerpen

In Vlaanderen noteren we in elke provincie een daling van het aantal letselongevallen. De daling is het sterkst in Limburg (-14,5%). Het aantal doden daalt bijna overal, in West-Vlaanderen (-19 doden) en Oost-Vlaanderen (-18) is de daling het grootst. Er is enkel een forse stijging van het aantal verkeersdoden in de provincie Antwerpen. Daar vielen er 20 doden meer. Het is al van 2011 geleden dat het er nog zoveel waren. De stijging is vooral opvallend bij de voetgangers (van 2 naar 11 doden ter plaatse) en bij de motorrijders (van 1 naar 9 doden).

Tendensen volgens type weggebruiker

Veel minder ongevallen met bromfietsen

Het aantal letselongevallen vermindert voor alle types weggebruikers, behalve voor de ongevallen met vrachtwagens. (+1%). De grootste daling zien we bij de bromfietsen (-14%).

Bromfietsen ongevallen wel ernstiger

Hoewel het aantal letselongevallen met een bromfiets nog nooit zo laag was, is het aantal doden in deze ongevallen wel gestegen van 7 naar 16. Ze zijn dus ernstiger geworden. Het aantal doden onder de voetgangers is licht gestegen (van 44 naar 47 doden). Daarentegen is het aantal ongevallen waarbij een wagen betrokken is het sterkst gedaald (van 209 naar 175 doden).

Geen daling aantal letselongevallen tijdens de weeknachten

Alleen tijdens de weeknachten is er geen daling genoteerd van het aantal letselongevallen, maar stagneren de cijfers. Wat het aantal doden betreft, is de daling het grootst tijdens het weekend (-31 doden). In de week vielen er 13 doden minder.

Nooit minder jongeren gestorven in een ongeval.

Het aantal ongevallen waarbij een jonge bestuurder betrokken is (tussen 18-24 jaar), is met 9% gedaald en het aantal doden in deze ongevallen daalde met 12%. Dat zijn de beste resultaten ooit. De afgelopen 10 jaar is het aantal jongeren dat in het verkeer omkwam zelfs met meer dan 50% gedaald! Dat is de meest gunstige tendens van de barometer.

Conclusie

Deze resultaten voor de eerste 9 maanden van het jaar tonen een positieve evolutie van de verkeersveiligheid op onze wegen in vergelijking met dezelfde periode vorig jaar. De evolutie van het aantal ongevallen en gewonden is gunstig. Dat geldt ook voor het aantal doden ter plaatse, de dalende trend volgt de evolutie die we al voor het hele jaar 2016 noteerden. We moeten natuurlijk de resultaten afwachten van de laatste 3 maanden van het jaar vooraleer definitieve conclusies te trekken, maar de doelstelling om tegen 2020 naar 420 verkeersdoden te gaan lijkt niet meer onrealistisch.

Minister van Mobiliteit Bellot:’Deze resultaten zijn zeker bemoedigend, maar we mogen toch niet op onze lauweren rusten. We hebben ten opzichte van onze buurlanden toch nog een zekere achterstand in te halen. Er moeten nog veel inspanningen geleverd worden om de doelstelling van maximaal 420 verkeersdoden tegen 2020 te halen. De strijd tegen recidivisme en rijden onder invloed van alcohol zijn enkele van onze prioriteiten om dat doel te halen.’

Ahold Delhaize announces Ahold Delhaize USA, a new parent company for its U.S. businesses; appoints Kevin Holt CEO Ahold Delhaize USA

Ahold Delhaize today announced the creation of Ahold Delhaize USA, to be effective on January 1, 2018. Ahold Delhaize USA will be the parent company for all of Ahold Delhaize's U.S. companies, including its local brands, Stop & Shop, Food Lion, Giant, Hannaford, Giant/Martin's, and Peapod, as well as Retail Business Services (RBS), a U.S. shared services company providing support to the brands.

Ahold Delhaize USA will be led by Kevin Holt, who will be appointed Chief Executive Officer Ahold Delhaize USA, effective January 1, 2018. Kevin is currently Chief Operating Officer of Ahold USA. In this new role he will remain a member of Ahold Delhaize's Management Board and Executive Committee and will continue to report to Dick Boer, CEO Ahold Delhaize. Royal Dutch Shell Plc third quarter 2017 Euro and GBP equivalent dividend payments

The Hague, December 7, 2017 - The Board of Royal Dutch Shell plc (“RDS”) today announced the pounds sterling and euro equivalent dividend payments in respect of the third quarter 2017 interim dividend, which was announced on November 2, 2017 at US$0.47 per A ordinary share (“A Share”) and B ordinary share (“B Share”).

Dividends on A Shares will be paid, by default, in euro at the rate of €0.3985 per A Share. Holders of A Shares who have validly submitted pounds sterling currency elections by December 1, 2017 will be entitled to a dividend of 35.02p per A Share.

Dividends on B Shares will be paid, by default, in pounds sterling at the rate of 35.02p per B Share. Holders of B Shares who have validly submitted euro currency elections by December 1, 2017 will be entitled to a dividend of €0.3985 per B Share.

This dividend will be payable on December 20, 2017 to those members whose names were on the Register of Members on November 17, 2017.

Taxation - cash dividend

Cash dividends on A Shares will be subject to the deduction of Dutch dividend withholding tax at the rate of 15%, which may be reduced in certain circumstances. Non-Dutch resident shareholders, depending on their particular circumstances, may be entitled to a full or partial refund of Dutch dividend withholding tax. Expected from 2018, Dutch and non-Dutch resident shareholders who are exempt from corporate income tax may elect for an exemption from Dutch dividend withholding tax instead of requesting a refund if tax was withheld.

Furthermore, in April 2016, there were changes to the UK taxation of dividends. The dividend tax credit was abolished, and a new tax free dividend allowance introduced. Dividend income in excess of the allowance is taxable at the following rates: 7.5% within the basic rate band; 32.5% within the higher rate band; and 38.1% on dividend income taxable at the additional rate.

Economically, Catalonia should be able to stand on its own two feet. No less than 45,000 Catalans were marching on Thursday at midday, in the Brussels European Quarter.

They have been demanding that the European Union both respects, and ensures the respect for, their wish for independence.

Those taking part are, in particular, demanding that Jordi Sánchez and Jordi Cuixart, the two figures of the separatist associations, the ANC (the National Catalan Assembly) and Òmnium Cultural, which have initiated the demonstration, be released.

They are also seeking the release of the deposed Catatalan Vice President, Oriol Junqueras, and the former adviser (Minister) for the Interior Joaquim Forn.

Amongst the crowd coming to Brussels, a multitude of them have been carrying the Estelada, the Catalan separatist flag.

A demonstrator explained, “we are demanding the support of the European Union, so that our right to self-determination is acknowledged.” “We are in favour of Catalonia’s independence. If the majority of people decide as I have done, we would like this choice to be respected.

We like also an independent Catalonia to stay in the European Union. Other countries have done so. We are, after all, the part of Spain which is the most fervent supporter of Europe.
